It seems like the spirit is confused by what it wants or needs in its new incarnation. This may be because it is a newly deceased spirit who is unaccustomed to the spirit world, or it may be one of the unfortunate souls who is doomed to remain lost forever.

2. Depression

Another common meaning for these orbs is depression. The spirit may feel a sense of apathy or ambivalence. It may be lacking in spiritual awareness and unable to find a way to move on to the next realm. There may also be a sense of fear. When a spirit has just passed on, this sense of depression or confusion is quite common. The spirit has left its purpose-filled life and is now struggling to figure out what is the next step for it.

3. Low Energy

White smoke tends to show a light spirit like a spirit guide, guardian angel or a deceased loved one who has crossed over. If you see black smoke, then it may show that it is a lower energy spirit. This may be a non-human dark entity or a spirit who cannot cross over and is earthbound. It could also just be a lingering, negative energy from a non-intelligent spirit.
