How to Naturally Drive More Traffic to Your Website

Right now, 85 percent of consumers go online to find a product before they make a purchase. An estimated one out of three clicks go to the top-listed result in the search engine. This means that the typical company is not going to get the traffic growth it needs unless it has organic traffic and a high ranking in the search engines.

1. Try Guest Blogging

While guest blog posting is less popular than it was a few years ago, it is still an effective way to generate website traffic. To use this technique, start by finding websites that are relevant to your target audience. Your goal is to generate the kind of targeted traffic that will actually help your website. You do not have to stick to just written articles either. A YouTube video or a podcast is an extremely useful way to reach potential viewers.

When you start doing guest blog posting, try adding a lead magnet to the content. The goal of the lead magnet is to make readers want to come to your website. This also helps you out with link building and helps to set your site up as an authority within the search engines. If a website lets you create a guest blog, make sure to return the favor by letting them release a blog on your site as well.

2. Remember On-Page SEO Factors

Creating engaging, authentic content is only one step in driving traffic to your site. High-quality websites also use SEO tactics on their web pages. Before you launch any new content, take some time to do your keyword research. You want to figure out which keywords will bring in the right traffic. Ideally, you will also have a list of keywords that you can actually be competitive at using.

On-page SEO factors are entirely within your own control. On each web page, figure out the keyword phrase that you want to target. Then, make sure to add that keyword into the following sections.

- Title tag
- Internal and external links
- URL
- Content
- Heading tags
- Description tag
- Image file name
- Image alt text

The content should include the keyword and close synonyms several times. Your title tag should also have the keyword since this is an important factor for SEO. Before you post the article, make sure that you have clean and uncluttered code so that your site is easier to read by the search engines.

3. Long-Tail Keywords Are Important

Another white-hate SEO trick is to focus on long-tail keywords. Short keywords are already extremely competitive. While it is possible to start ranking for these keywords, it would take a lot of time, effort and money to become successful. Instead of throwing away your company’s budget on a less effective option, go for long-tail keywords. Right now, more than half of all searches focus on keyword phrases that are four words or longer.

These keywords do not necessarily need to have a high volume. If you can be the top result for the keyword, you can get most of the results for that term. These keywords have less competition, which is why they also have higher conversion rates. You might not be able to become the top result for “shoes,” but you can definitely achieve a high ranking with “black sandals for summer.”

4. Focus on Link Building

Links are one way that search engines can tell how popular and useful a site is. Each link is like a vote in favor of your website. While the algorithms have become increasingly nuanced and complex, link building is still an important part of driving search engine traffic. Links help search engines figure out metrics like authority, trust and spam. In most cases, a trusted source will have more links than a spam website.

When creating backlinks, remember that anchor text matters. Search engines look at the anchor text to figure out what your content is actually about. Using anchor text is a useful technique that can help you with ranking certain keywords.

The location of your links is another factor to consider. If you are writing about pool filters, a backlink from the YMCA will be more important than a link from a clothing blog. In addition, look for trusted domains. If you build links from spam sites, search engines will assume that your site is also spam.

While social media links were not a major factor a few years ago, search engines are starting to place a higher value on them. Search professionals are still unsure how big a role social media sites actually play, but they are definitely a factor. For all of these links to work well, you also need to earn new links over time. Known as the FreshRank factor, this metric shows the search engines how relevant and popular your content is in the present.

5. Content Is Always Important

No matter how many years pass by, authentic content will always be the most important ranking factor. You can do black-hat SEO techniques like paying people for links and guest blogs, but none of that will boost your rankings for long. When viewers realize that they are reading spam, they will quickly disappear. Sooner or later, the search engines will always figure out if a website is weak on content.

For your site to succeed, focus on creating authentic content that engages the reader. The content should be developed around your target audience’s needs and interests. When your content is something your target audience naturally searches for, then each site visitor is already a potential customer. The search engines quickly realize that your site is useful and relevant, so you naturally enjoy better traffic growth over time.
